NEW BEDFORD — Alwyn (Al) Griffith, Jr. died at the age of 88 years on Monday, June 23, 2014 shortly after 5:00 PM. 

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two sons, Robert and Steven; and three grandchildren, Noah, Aaron and Sarah. 

Al was born in New Bedford, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was the principal of Roosevelt Junior High School from 1971 until his retirement in 1988. Al was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club. 

Services at St. Paul’s United Methodist in New Bedford will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 30, 2014.  Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery.
