April 17, 1998 – September 17, 2024
Valeri (Val) Ashley Azevedo of Middleboro, formerly of Berkley, passed away suddenly at the age
of 26 on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. She was born in Brockton, MA, daughter of Lisa
(Ashley) and Todd Cantalupo of Middleboro, MA and Larry and Chrissy Azevedo of Jamaica
Plain, MA.
Val graduated from Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical High School in Taunton and earned her
Associates Degree in Liberal Arts at Massasoit community college in Brockton.
Val was an avid horseback rider and loved the outdoors. She was a country girl through and
through and had many passions. She loved riding quads, fishing, mudding, hiking, and
photography. Mountains, barns, open fields, bonfires, and square body trucks, were among her
favorite things. Some of her favorite places were New Hampshire, “Proving Grounds” in Maine,
and Truro/Provincetown, MA where she spent many summers vacationing with her family. Val
loved her horse Wildfire and above all her dog and sidekick, Cocoa. Cocoa and Val were
inseparable.
Val was always smiling and was the life of the party. She loved to laugh and had a quick wit and
great sense of humor. She lit up a room. She was strong and not afraid of a little hard work. She
was fearless, brave, and determined. She had a fierce, yet gentle soul.
Val was an extremely gifted and talented singer. Her voice amazed all who heard it. She was an
amazing artist, as well. She had a way with animals which earned her the nickname “the animal
whisperer”.
She was a loyal and true friend; always there to help or to listen. She also had a special bond
with many of the residents of The Shaw Home, in Middleboro, where she was formerly
employed. They meant the world to her.
Val’s bright light and kindness will be truly missed by so many.
Val is survived by her parents, as well as brother; Joseph Carnabuci of Rockland, MA, maternal
grandfather; Jethro Ashley of Middleboro, MA, paternal grandparents; Joseph and Celeste
Sousa of Azores, maternal auntie; Lori Ashley of Middleboro, MA, paternal uncle; Milton
Azevedo and wife Corin, stepsiblings; Mackenzie, John and Jordan Cantalupo of Middleboro, MA.
Visiting hours will be held in the O’Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce St., Middleboro, MA, Tuesday,
September 24th, 2024 from 12 - 3 p.m. with a funeral ceremony immediately following at 3 p.m.
