Steven E. Barnicoat of Lakeville passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 28, 2023.
He was born on May 1, 1949 in Brockton, son of the late Stanley E. and Barbara L. (Henderson) Barnicoat. Steve attended schools in Yarmouth, Lakeville and Middleboro, from which he graduated in 1967. He was a high school all-star in both basketball and football. A graduate of Bryant College, Steve was a baseball standout, later playing semi-pro. An avid sportsman late in life, golf was his passion. He belonged to several organizations, including the Masons and Elks, serving in leadership positions. Steve owned several businesses, including the Wooden Nickel, Barnicoat Insurance and Stoney's Pub & Pizza to name a few.
Steve was a man of great faith. He was a member of the North Rochester Congregational Church where he served as a Lay Minister. In all aspects of his life, he considered everything a challenge and sought to make a success out of it.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Cathy Urolatis; son Keith Barnicoat and his wife Wendy; daughter Bonnie Morrison and husband Schoen; and daughter Michelle Berman. He is also survived by brothers William and John Barnicoat. Steve was also the grandfather of four: Victor, Donnie and Steven Morrison; and Brooks Berman. He is also survived by a niece and several nephews.
Visiting hours on May 4, 2023 (Thursday) from 4 until 7 p.m. in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleboro.
Funeral services on May 5, 2023 (Friday) at 10 a.m. in the North Rochester Congregational Church, 247 North Avenue, Rochester.
