Ruth Stone Verrocchi Obituary

Ruth Staples Stone Verrocchi, age 81, of Middleborough, MA, passed away on February 6, 2023 surrounded by
her loved ones, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in Brockton, MA to Richard Whitman Staples and Viola Lindquist Staples. She lived in West
Bridgewater, MA until her junior year in H.S. when her family moved to Center Harbor, NH. Ruth attended
Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, NH and graduated with honors in 1959.

Ruth worked for 35 years for the United States Postal Service as a postal clerk as well as Interim Postmaster
for several years at the Halifax, MA branch. In her spare time, she loved tending to her vegetable garden,
feeding the birds (especially the turkeys), antiquing with her family, cooking (she was a recent convert to The
Food Network) and cheering on the New England Patriots and NASCAR races. Ruth was blessed with a green
thumb and took great pride in her beautiful yard full of flowers, plants, flowering bushes, and trees. She loved
to read and would never be without the latest bestseller by her chair! She read every minute that she could,
often with her beloved cat, Sophia, by her side.

Ruth loved to travel. Her travels included a trip to Sweden and other European countries with her sisters to
visit extended family; traveling to Colorado, Texas, Nashville, Florida, New York, D.C., and all of the New
England states. But her favorite place was home, where she could be “Mum” and “Grammy” to the people
most important to her.

She was a giving, caring and selfless soul. She loved her family dearly, and her children and grandchildren
were the light of her life. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother
in-law, cousin, colleague, and friend. Ruth touched the lives of so many people and will truly be missed by all
who loved her.

Ruth is survived by her four children, Doug Stone and Donna of Plympton, MA; Dawn Stone of Alton, NH; Dale
Stone and Peg of Lincoln, NE and Nathan Verrocchi of Middleborough, MA. As a single parent for many years,Ruth exemplified to her children the importance of hard work, determination, and strength of character.

Ruth is also survived by grandchildren Dani, Corie, Joshua (his wife Jamie), Christopher and Tabitha. Her
great-grandchildren are Caroline, Philip, Meredith, J.J., Izzi, Mikey, Kayleigh, Alana, and Gavin. She also leaves
sisters Joanne Millsaps of Chester, NH and Judy Dever of Meredith, NH as well as several nieces, nephews, and
cousins. Ruth’s devoted cat, Sophia, will miss her greatly.

Ruth was predeceased by her grandson, Tyler Douglas Wade, in 2016.

Our family will be having a celebration of life at War Memorial Park in West Bridgewater, MA in the early
