Robert Thomson Obituary

ROBERT K. “Bob” THOMSON, 80, of Middleboro, passed into the presence of Jesus, his Lord & Savior, on October 10, 2022 at Morton Hospital, Taunton. He was married 55 years to Carolyn J. (Hallgren) Thomson whom he cared for deeply, along with his family.

Born and raised in Worcester, MA, Bob was the loving son of the late Kenneth M. and Myrtle G. (Stooke) (Godfrey) Thomson. He was extremely close to both of his grandparents and grew up with relatives of the Stooke, Bibik, and Torowski families.

A 1960 graduate of Commerce High School, he then served in the United States Air Force in North Dakota and the Philippines as a dental lab technician.

Bob then worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center Dental Labs in Brockton and West Roxbury. He became the Department Supervisor, training dental students from Harvard and Tufts.  In addition, he owned and operated his own private dental lab. He retired in 1997, after working for 35 years.

Prior to his military years, he met his wife, Carolyn, during high school at Grace Baptist church in Worcester.  After their wedding in 1966, Bob & Carolyn began raising children in Taunton, living there briefly before moving to Middleboro where they resided for nearly 50 years.

Together they enjoyed serving the Lord at Central Baptist Church and at Central Congregational Church.  Bob served as a Deacon, Trustee, Choir member, Sunday School and Bible Study Teacher, Sound Team member, Assistant Treasurer, Church Custodian, and Song Leader.

In addition, Bob was the ultimate DIY handyman, who loved all his tools and gadgets, as well as his watches and clocks. He had great appreciation for music, sports, cooking, and fishing and took great joy in engaging in lively conversations and of course, always telling his many “dad jokes”. We all knew him as a gifted baritone singer, who would often spontaneously break into song - seriously or playfully, even in his last days. Bob’s heart was often overflowing with praises and songs to the Lord.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his friends and family: his devoted wife, Carolyn; children, Beth E. Ogden of Marlboro, Peter D. Thomson, Sr. & his fiancé Amie of Auburn, ME, and Janet L. Dearborn & her husband Glenn of Leominster; very close relatives, Aunt Grace Torowski, cousins Nancy, Linda, Paula, Dorothy, William, Deborah, and Phillip; sister-in-law Beverly and her husband Warren; niece, Tina and her husband Andrew; grandchildren, Brianna, Adeline and her husband Carlos, Abigail and her partner Anthony, Olivia and her partner Chaeryna, Peter, Jr. and his wife Allison, Noah, Alana and her fiancé Jarad, and Ryan; and his great grandchildren, Edward, Chase, Vivienne, Javiah, Declan, & Matthias.

He was predeceased by his cousin, Mark, son, Brian,  and granddaughter, Brittney.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of Life for Bob on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 1:30pm at the Central Congregational Church, 2 Webster Street, Middleboro, MA. Light refreshments will follow. His Military honors and burial will be held privately at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Salvation Army, 216 Centre Street, Brockton, MA, 02303, or online at give.salvationarmyusa.org
