Obituary

 

NORMAN ERNEST RECORD SR. PASSED AWAY ON FEBRUARY 1, 2021 AT THE WEST 
ROXBURY VA HOSPITAL AT THE AGE OF 93.  
 
NORMAN WAS BORN IN FITZWILLIAM NH ON DECEMBER 26, 1927.  HE WAS THE 
9TH BORN OF 11 CHILDREN, TO THE LATE IDA MAY (BOYLE) & SALMANA P. RECORD.  
 
HE SERVED IN THE ARMY FROM 1951 - 1954. AS A SERGEANT, HE FOUGHT IN THE 
KOREAN WAR; WHERE HE RECEIVED A PURPLE HEART OF HONOR, KOREAN SERVICE MEDAL,
UN SERVICE MEDAL AND THE NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL.  
 
NORMAN RESIDED IN MIDDLEBORO,THE TOWN HE LOVED, WHERE HE CALLED 
HOME FOR OVER 70 YEARS.  WHERE HE RAISED A FAMILY WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL 
LATE WIFE, MARY ANN (COSTA) RECORD. NORMAN WAS A DEDICATED CIVIL 
SERVANT TO MIDDLEBORO: SERVING ON THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT, POLICE 
DEPARTMENT, TRUANCY OFFICER, AND ON THE CONSERVATION COMMISSION. AS 
A POLICE OFFICER, NORMAN CAN BE REMEMBERED FOR BEING ON THE 4 
CORNERS WHERE EVERYONE KNEW HIM, AND WERE GREETED WITH HIS SMILE 
UNTIL HE RETIRED IN 1981. 
 
NORMAN WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER IN THE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATING IN 
MANY CLUBS AND ASSOCIATIONS.  THE VFW POST #2188, THE MIDDLEBORO DAV, 
THE MA POLICE ASSOCIATION, THE RETIRED STATE COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL 
EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION OF MA, THE KIWANIS CLUB, THE MITCHEL MEMORIAL 
CLUB, ELKS CLUB AND EAGLES CLUB AND LIONS CLUB. NORMAN WAS ALSO A 
HUGE NEW ENGLAND SPORTS FAN AND PLAYED FOR THE MIDDLEBORO COBRAS 
IN HIS YOUTH. NORMAN HAD A HUGE PERSONALITY AND AN INFECTIOUS 
LAUGH.  THERE WASN’T A ROOM THAT HE WOULD WALK INTO, NOT HAVING 
MADE FRIENDS.  HE LOVED HIS FAMILY, WARM WEATHER, ANIMALS AND 
TRAVELING. 
 
NORMAN’S LIFE WILL CONTINUE TO BE CELEBRATED BY THOSE WHO SURVIVE 
HIM.  
THIS ADORING CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN.  MARIANNE RECORD AND HER 
HUSBAND EDWIN RODRIGUEZ AND THEIR DAUGHTER AMANDA (THOMPSON) 
ROCK AND HER HUSBAND PETE ROCK.  THE LATE NORMAN ERNEST RECORD JR. 
(BI).  JIM RECORD AND HIS WIFE SHARON AND THEIR CHILDREN MIKELE 
DEPAOLO AND PAIGE RECORD.  DAVID RECORD AND HIS LIFE LONG COMPANION, 
DREW GOWING.  ROB RECORD AND HIS THREE SONS, RJ, ERICK AND NICK 
RECORD.    
 
NORMAN WAS A BELOVED BROTHER TO IDA, KENNETH, FLO, LIBBY, BUDDY, 
JERRY, MADY, MILLY, DONALD AND CAROL. HE WAS THE FAVORITE “UNC” TO 
MANY ADORING NIECES AND NEPHEWS.    
 
 
 
SERVICES WILL BE PRIVATE AND NORMAN WILL BE LAID TO REST AT THE 
BOURNE NATIONAL CEMETERY.

THIS ORGANIZATION WAS NEAR AND DEAR TO NORMAN’S HEART AND 
RECENTLY DID A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WORK TO ENSURE THAT KOREAN 
VETS RECEIVED THE AMBASSADOR OF PEACE MEDAL FROM THE GOVERNMENT 
OF SOUTH KOREA.
