Mike was a free spirit, he had a charismatic personality that would light up a room. Michael was a natural athlete in sports growing up, he particularly excelled in basketball and golf. Some of his sporting accomplishments were: scoring 357 points in a single season at Apponequet High School in the 1970’s and being named to the Standard times Allstar team. He won the Reservoir Heights CC Championship , the Taunton City Open, and placed in the PGA Mini Tour Tournament.
Mike struggled with addiction, which inhibited his further track in sports. However, throughout his life he continued the fight, and had bouts of sobriety. It was really during these times when he exhibited his true self. Mike had a heart of gold and a level of gratitude that few people maintain. He would say even of the most mundane or average meal that it was the best meal he had ever had because he was so thankful for it, and he meant it. Michael loved his family endlessly.
He leaves behind his older sister Janet Washburn of North Conway, NH and younger sister, Mary Chiuppi of Middleboro.
A graveside service will be held on Friday (November 6, 2020) at 10 AM in Saint Mary Cemetery.
