Leona DeMoranville Obituary

Leona Irene (DesRosiers) DeMoranville died peacefully in her home surrounded by loving family and friends on September 30, 2023. She was 97 years old.

She was born on February 28, 1926 in Middleboro. The daughter of the late J. Alfred DesRosiers and Nellie M. (Faille) DesRosiers. She spent most of her life in Middleboro and attended North Middleboro schools. She married the late Alan C. DeMoranville Sr. in 1943 whom she adored and was married to for 53 years.

Leona had a passion for life and was a hard worker. Her young married life was spent helping on the family farm while raising her 4 children. She later worked as the head baker at the Middleboro High School from 1974 until her retirement. She was a member of the Human Rights Committee for the Paul A. Dever School in Taunton where she fought to improve conditions for those without a voice. After moving to the Cape in 1996 to live with her daughter, she filled her days with gardening and also volunteered at the local thrift shop. She attended Corpus Christi parish in Sandwich until it became too difficult for her to travel.

She is survived by her sister Lillian (DesRosiers) Dunham of Lakeville and her brother Napoleon DesRosiers of Berkley. Her oldest son was the late Alan C. DeMoranville Jr. former Lt. Detective of the Middleboro police force. Her daughters Carol Lee Conant and husband Charles (Skip) of Arizona, Mary Moquin and husband Douglas of Sandwich and her son Mark of Taunton, Eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Visiting hours and a celebration of remembrance will be held on October 11th (Wednesday) from 4-7 with a special celebration at 5 at the O’Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleboro.

Her funeral Mass will be held on October 12th (Thursday) at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church of Saint Isidore Parish in Middleboro celebrated by her former Pastor Marcel Bouchard. 

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Middleboro.

Flowers are welcome and encouraged as she loved her garden.
