Kenneth Martin Obituary

Kenneth C. Martin (80) passed away peacefully on August 25, 2023, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital with his children at his bedside. He was born in Middleboro on June 3, 1943, and was a lifelong  resident of Middleboro, residing in his Webster Street home. Kenneth was the proprietor of Middleboro Clothing Company in downtown Middleboro, which had been in business for three generations before closing in the late 1990s. He was known for his kind-hearted nature and warm smile that could brighten any room. As a father, he was a teacher who instilled integrity in his children's work and relationships, emphasizing the importance of saving for rainy days and exercising to maintain good health and reduce stress. Kenneth (Ken) was compassionate, caring, and an excellent listener.

Throughout his life, Ken actively participated in his community. He served as the President of the Mitchell Memorial Club and was a lifetime member. Later in his career, he pursued his passion for boating and worked for Cape Cod Water Sports. In 1999, he joined Edson International in New Bedford and remained employed there until his passing. He was highly respected by his customers and colleagues, considering his work a purposeful endeavor. Kenneth had a deep appreciation for the history of Middleboro and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He was a lifelong learner and a dedicated teacher, particularly in the field of percussion. Starting from a young age, he played the drums and later became a beloved percussion instructor. He continued his own education until 2012, studying under his dear friend and mentor, the late Dick DiCenso.

In his personal life, Ken cherished his family and friends. He created wonderful memories with his "boys' sailing trips" to the British Virgin Islands, traveled with his late wife Jean on long bike rides and visits to California, and enjoyed monthly breakfasts in town with his close friends. He also valued his friendships at the YMCA and maintained an active lifestyle through exercise.

Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean, his brother J.Frederick "Fred" Martin and his sister Harriet "Judy" Chatfield. He is survived by his daughter Karol-Ann (Martin) Sample and her husband Bob of Westlake Village, his son John K. Martin of Florida, stepchildren David S. Reed, Lori J. Noel, and Matthew G. Buffinton, his sister-in-law Susan Martin, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

A private burial will take place on October 14th, followed by a celebration of life at the Mitchell Memorial Club from 12-4.

Donations in Kenneth's memory may be made to the YMCA.
