Joan E. (Wiegand) Gallagher

Joan E (Wiegand) Gallagher,74, of Middleborough, unexpectedly passed away on December 15, 2020 
surrounded by her loving family. Born August 12, 1946 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late 
William J Wiegand and Mary E (Howe) Wiegand. Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, 
Robert G Gallagher; her loving children Jay Gallagher and wife Marie of Milton, MA, Christine Hobin and 
husband Jay of Cumberland, RI, Mark Gallagher of Dorchester, MA; 7 treasured grandchildren, Brendan 
Hudson, Joseph, Kathleen, Nora, and Cian Gallagher, Craig and Lily Hobin and cherished great grandson 
Aiden Hudson; her loving sisters Sister Eleanor Wiegand, C.S.J. and Virginia (Wiegand) Fontana; pre- 
deceased by her loving brother William Wiegand and her sisters Mary Claire Wiegand and Marilyn 
(Wiegand) King. 
 
Joan thoroughly enjoyed her extended “maternity leave”. Before moving to Middleborough, she was 
active in the St. William’s Parish (Savin Hill) community, particularly candlepin bowling and bingo, the 
perfect outlets for her social and competitive nature. She loved camping, not so much for the camping 
itself, but for the time spent and memories made with family and long-term beloved friends. More 
recently she has enjoyed the company of her dear friends at Oak Point. 
 
Joan loved going on day drives with Bob for lunch, to see the grand-kids, a trip to the casino, or just to 
see someplace new. She never smiled wider than when she and Bob had all of their children, 
grand-children, and great grand-child under their roof.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (December 29, 2020) at 10 AM in Saints Martha & Mary Church.
