James John McCarthy of Middleboro died peacefully and in the presence of his loving family on January 7, 2023. He was 87.
He was born on September 17, 1935 in Haverhill, the son of the late Timothy G. and Ruth E. (West) McCarthy. He was raised on a farm was a graduate of Norwood High School. He served in the United States Army (Korean War) and was Honorably Discharged. James furthered his education at Bentley College, where he received a degree in accounting. In 1959 he married Lois Ann Pease, originally from Dedham and relocated to Texas shortly thereafter. They raised their family and he enjoyed a lengthy career in the oil business and ran a successful business in Livingston, Texas. James and Lois returned to Massachusetts after 50 years in Texas, retiring to Oak Point in Middleboro. A good natured and decent man, James deeply touched those he met and possessed a great sense of humor.
Beloved husband of Lois Ann (Pease) McCarthy. Devoted father of David and Karen McCarthy of Houston, Texas. Adored grandfather of Davin and his wife, Jess, Hannah, Courtney, Candace, Jessica and the late Justin Chandler. Cherished brother of Julia McPherson of Newton, Louise (McLean) Chisolm, with whom he was raised and her husband, Bob of Centerville. Also survived by his two great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Corbin.
Funeral services on January 21, 2023 (Saturday) at 1 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleboro.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Interment will be private and in the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
