Herman Battle Obituary

Herman (Butch) Battle, 79, passed away, Thursday, December 10, 2020 at West Roxbury VA Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  He was a resident of Middleborough, Massachusetts since 1995. 

Butch was born June 26, 1941 in New York City to Addie and Jerry Battle. 

Butch is survived by his wife, Christa, daughter Nancy, son Bryan and numerous nieces and nephews.  Butch was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and sisters. 

From 1958 until 1962 Butch served in the U. S. Marine Corps on the USS Thuban.  In 1963 he switched to the U. S. Army because he wanted to go to Jump School.  Butch retired as an E6 from the US Army in 1970.

Butch was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal W/V Device, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1 Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Badge W/Rifle Bar, Parachutist Badge, and a Presidential Unit Citation.  

After Butch's military discharge, he started working for the USPS as a Mail Handler.  When he left the USPS, he enjoyed watching TV and spending time with friends and fellow Veterans.  He loved to look at Sports, his Western Movies, and reruns of Gunsmoke. 

He was an Officer of the VFW in Middleboro.  He never missed an opportunity to help others.  He supported numerous veteran groups and causes throughout his life and made charitable contributions.  To name a few, Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and St Jude's Hospital.  

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the charities listed above.  

Due to pandemic related restrictions on social gatherings, funeral services will be private.  

Military Honors will be rendered in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, where Butch will be buried.
