George C. Hodkinson, Sr. age 85 passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 25, 2020 at home . He leaves his beloved wife Florence (Sincoski) Hodkinson whom he was married to for 63 years. They first met July 3, 1952 and have enjoyed a beautiful life for 68 years. Born in Fall River on February 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Harold J. and Delia (Warrener) Hodkinson.
George is also survived by his two daughters Maureen & David Camara of Somerset, Kathleen & Michael McKenna of East Freetown and one son Stanley W. Hodkinson of Centerville and predeceased by his son George C. Hodkinson, Jr. and his late wife Barbara (Johnson) Hodkinson. He leaves 8 Grandchildren: Katelan (Camara) Antunes, Lauren (Camara) Bealby, Jessica (McKenna) Gerrior, Ashley (Hodkinson) Fonseca, Kelsey and Nicholas McKenna, Samantha and Tiffany Hodkinson; 11 Great-grandchildren: Hunter, Brandon, Daniel & Savannah Antunes, Emma and Abigail Bealby, George, Tegan & Paisley Fonseca, Lucas and Bradley Gerrior, George also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and his sister-in-law, Doris Hodkinson. He was predeceased by his brothers Charles, James and Harold, Jr. and his sisters Mary Janick, Isabelle MacDonald, Eleanor Bottomley, and Marion McGreavy.
George was a Eucharistic Minister and an Altar Server at Our Lady of Hope Chapel in West Barnstable. He also visited the homebound for many years. He was a 1954 graduate of Diman Vocational High School in Fall River and served in the U.S. Army from August 13, 1957 to August 13, 1959. He retired from Verizon as a Central Office Technician in June of 1990. George fought his Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis for four years. He had many hobbies including playing horseshoes, pool and bocce with a group of retirees, Square and Round dancing with his wife, gardening, sports and enjoyed watching the many birds in his yard. He was a very kind, loving person and always willing to help others. George travelled often with his beloved wife on several trips . He especially loved the trips he took with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Stations and loved chatting and kidding with the firefighters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 27, 2021 (Saturday) at 9 AM in Saint Margaret of Scotland Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay.
Burial will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
