Frank Coutinho Obituary

Frank David Coutinho passed away on April 2, 2022 after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. He was born on July 29, 1962 to the late Carol Pauline and Frank D. Coutinho Sr., the third of their six children.

He was raised in Middleboro and graduated from MHS in 1980. After graduating he attended Framingham State University for two years before serving in the United States Army as a Cannon Crewman, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Upon discharge he returned home and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Bridgewater State College. Frank dedicated his life to the Middleboro community as an educator, eventually earning his Masters in Education from Fitchburg State University. More than a career, it was a calling and it was simply who he was at his core. He also served the teachers of the Middleboro district as the Middleboro Education Association (MEA) president.

Frank was truly a giant among men. His presence was commanding, his voice was booming, he suffered no fools, and he was a fierce protector and a guiding light for his family, who was the center of his universe. He loved to cook and see family and friends enjoy his culinary creations, but more than anything, he loved to laugh in good company.

Frank was a self-proclaimed dork, a title he wore like a badge of honor. He loved all things Star Wars and Middle-Earth. An avid reader of science-fiction and fantasy, Frank’s favorite books included Isaac Asimov’s Robot series and Foundation series, Frank Herbert’s Dune series, JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series, and Piers Anthony’s Incarnations of Immortality series. He loved to play Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and APBA Baseball.

Frank is survived by his wife of 32 years Marianne Merritt Coutinho, their three children Jessica Newey of Burlington, David Coutinho, Elyse Coutinho and her partner Aidan Fagundes all of Middleboro, and his granddaughter Claire Newey. He is also survived by his siblings Suzanne Wilbur and her husband Peter, Donald Coutinho and his wife Ann, Robert Coutinho and his wife Mary-Jo, Margi Coutinho-Betancourt and her husband Ricardo, Andrew Coutinho and his wife Kathy, his step-mother Nancy Coutinho and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Deborah J. Fachetti who passed away in 1988.
