Barbara Cecilia (Freitas) Reynolds

Barbara Cecilia (Freitas) Reynolds passed away peacefully Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the age of 89. She was the loving wife of the late James David Reynolds, Jr. for 49 years, the daughter of the late Anthony Freitas and Cecilia (Trinque) Freitas, and sister of the late Tony Freitas.

Born in Middleboro in 1932, Barbara grew up during the Great Depression and as a teen worked as a day-laborer on the cranberry bogs. She was a graduate of MHS class of 1951 where she excelled in the arts. After graduation she was employed at Plymouth Shoe in Middleboro as one of the ‘office girls’ where she met hand-stitcher and future husband Jim. The two were married in 1954. In 1964 they left Plymouth Shoe to start what was then called Reynolds Greenhouse & Flowers with a dozen greenhouses, growing seasonal and holiday crops. Barbara was an avid gardener and hard worker, committed to serving the community through the business for decades.

Barbara is survived by daughter Debra, son James III and his wife Michele, grandchildren Brandon and wife Kristin, Sheldon, Joseph, Cecilia and Sasiyyah, sister Elizabeth (Betty), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Barbara was warm-hearted, witty and compassionate. With her welcoming smile and kind blue eyes she was loved by all. She was especially empathetic to those in need, always taking time to comfort those most troubled. She loved cats, dogs and animals of all kinds and was never bothered by taking in strays. Her kindness was unrivalled.

There will be a visitation at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street, Middleboro, MA on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 2-4pm. All are welcome.

Burial will be private.
