Oh, George. I still don't know what to think; I still won't ALLOW myself to think, for fear of drowning in my heart's tears. You have shed the pains, the griefs, the doubts and the demons of mortal existence, but we left behind must still struggle with them until we join you. But when I can rise above the ocean of tears, when I raise my eyes to the skies, I know that you know how we love you. I know that you know now that what was, was the way it needed to be. I know that you are so very proud now, proud of your family, proud of your boys, proud of the warm memories we hold of the good you wrought in life. And I know that you are proud of me, proud and happy that my foot remains firmly upon my own demon's neck. I know that, in death as in life, you will lend me your strength and stand beside me in spirit when the wheel seems immovable, when leaden grief drags my soul's wings through the mire, when mortal despair stills the song in my throat. You were in the ospreys that wheeled and keened the day you rode off into the sky, you sent the California license plates and songs, the cobalt blue heart, the sunglasses along my path and washed up on the shore, the loons crying in the night. You spoke with the voices of many friends until my angry resentment faded, until I realized that YOU were telling me, that YOU wanted me to know something that would never have occurred to me otherwise. And you know that I WILL follow your advice, even if my own stubborn pride makes it much more difficult than it needs to be, and forces me to revisit pain better left in the past. I know that when Moosie left us, those few short weeks later, you were there, revving your engine, to escort him to that little log cabin by the lake, where his sister and yours were, where all of our loved ones waited with joy and love, to watch him run, to listen to him speak to his mama's heart, to laugh as Cody and all of our four footed friends greeted him, to smile at the table that my old Grammy heaped high with a thanksgiving dinner rivaled by none here below. You taught me before you left that love is infinite and eternal. Oh, hey, guess what?

Sorry to just learn of George's passing. I had been trying to reach him because he had not called for a while. He was so generous with his time and help with my husband when he was ill.. He was always considerate. We will miss the handy man.

George,

I love you very much and will miss you tremendously, but I take comfort in knowing you are now at peace and FREE at last. I was always proud of you and grateful to have you as my brother. I want you to know you were truly LOVED by so many people and would be very pleased with how beautiful your day of celebration was. It was attended by so many friends, fellow veterans and all your family members - and in particular one VERY SPECIAL family member whom you ALWAYS thought of and loved very very much. You would be very PROUD and couldn't ask for a better tribute. You will continue to be loved in life and in death. Rest peacefully, Love always, Angela

When we moved to Lakeville some 19 years ago George answered an ad Pete placed for help with dog training. George ended up doing every so much more for us, including laying a beautiful stone walkway for me. His loyalty to Pete who is a paraplegic was most appreciated. Pete had been trying to get back in touch with him for some time. It seemed to us both that George had had some really bad breaks and we hoped life was looking up for him. We are so sorry to hear of this sad accident. We will always remember him.
