Joan M. (Gammons) Merritt of Middleboro died on July 2, 2017. She was 81.
She was born on November 17, 1935 in Brockton, daughter of the late George M. and Sarah (Robischeau) Gammons and was a graduate of Middleboro Memorial High School, Class of 1954.
Joan worked at Maxim Motors and later in the Prudential Building. While commuting on the New Haven train to Boston she met her future husband, Bill Merritt. A medical transcriptionist, Joan devoted more than 20 years to St. Luke’s Hospital and several years to Dr. Robert Sepersky before she retired. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish.
Beloved wife of the late William C. Merritt. Devoted mother of William G. Merritt and his wife, Donna-Jean of Middleboro, Jeffrey C. Merritt of Brockton and Marianne Coutinho and her husband, Frank of Middleboro. Sister of the late Beatrice Brigida and M. Eugene Gammons. Grandmother of Jessica Newey and her husband, Brent of Reading, David Coutinho, Elyse Coutinho and John Merritt all of Middleboro. Great-grandmother of Claire Newey of Reading.
Visiting hours on Sunday (July 16, 2017) from 2-6 PM.
Funeral from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleboro, Monday (July 17, 2017) at 9 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church at 10 AM.
Interment Saint Mary Cemetery.
